Breakfast is a very important meal of the day.
Having nice breakfast in a cozy atmosphere will really help you enjoy the rest of your day here in Mandalay.
Besides, there are many local places for you to enjoy local food.
I'm here bringing the most authentic breakfast here only available in Mandalay because these are the most real taste of Mandalay breakfast.
Here we are in the shop, ‘Shwe Yaung Linn’.
What are we having for breakfast?
This one looks unique. It is 'Mandalay Mont Di'.
Mont Di is very famous in Mandalay.
The ingredients are fermented rice, chicken, fish balls, and bean powder together.
So, it's famous for breakfast for local people in Mandalay.
This is another menu. They call it 'Mandalay Mee Shay'.
It is another kind of noodles, but only found here in Mandalay.
Pork belly, pork, beans, and some chilis.
And, you eat with the soup. It's pork soup.
Alright. Let's enjoy the food!
I'm super excited today. It's my first time here to try local food in Mandalay!
My local friend introduced me to this place. It's called ‘Karaweik cafe’.
And it's open from evening time until morning of the next day.
And we're going to have a lot of food today.
This is the Chicken Biryani. This one looks very good.
And you eat this kind of many spices. I think it contains a lot of spices here.
The other one is a coconut rice and chicken curry. It has sweet smell. The taste is sweet.
The ingredients are chicken, peanut oils, onions, and garlic...a little bit of garlic and spices.
Then, we eat the rice with this curry.
It smells good! I love the spices go along well with chicken meat.
The next thing that I want to introduce to you is 'Keema'.
And this is also originally from India, but local people modify the taste to meet Myanmar taste. Local taste.
You may wondering what's the local taste? (laugh).
They prefer oily, sweet...and sometimes Myanmar food is a little bit salty - saltier than other food.
Let me show you inside of ‘Keema’.
Here inside, there are onions, garlic, muttons, and some other spices.
But, if you wish you can add more chilis. or, sometimes, potatoes inside.
Today what's so special about this lunch is Daung Lann, Myanmar Royal Set Menu.
It is the name of this tray. This is a special kind of tray, especially the food curry.
So, we've used this kind of tray, Daung Lann, for many years when local people have meals.
And, it shows the family bond and tightness among the family members because they have to use this tray in only one place where they can have meals.
So special about this. My favorite is chicken curry.
So, in Mandalay, you eat a lot of muttons. As you can see these shredded meats, they’re Dried muttons..they are in a lot of food menus.
You will have a lot of curry menus in Mandalay.
People love to eat meat curries.
This time, I will let you taste the one dish you will really find the real taste of Mandalay because its curry it's really different from other places in Myanmar.
So, you cannot still find this kind of curry in other places in Myanmar.
The location is ‘Myanmar Food Villa’.
One of the dish is so black because of long hours of cooking.
Normally, they don't cook meat for long hours, but for this one, we took nearly 10 hours of cooking.
And then, since it is cooked for long hours, it is good for health.
Try the pork first. Black pork. I think you're gonna love it.
I feel the herbs, herbal smell.
The other one is quite different from normal dishes we usually eat.
It’s is mango and chicken and shrimp paste.
Chicken a mango together. That's why I'm saying that it is quite different.
I personally love shrimp paste, every kind of shrimp paste, especially spicy shrimp paste.
So, this one is mixed with shredded chicken and mango. So special.
I saw a lot of people on streets today. People normally wake up very early in Mandalay.
What do they do in the morning?
Some people, they worship Buddha because there are lot of Buddhists here.
They worship Buddha and say prayers. So, they have quite a big breakfast.
We were in ‘Yoon Khin Khin’ restaurant, you can see dim sum. So here, they got influenced by Chinese food as well.
There are some some Chinese descendants and immigrantsin Mandalay.
It looks so good!
They call this bun 'Pao', most of the time call it 'Pao Si'.
And inside, it’s barbecue pork.
It's not ready-made. I guess they do this very freshly every day.
So, it's very fresh and it tastes very good.
The local people will dip this inside this tomato sauce.
Tomato and chilli sauce. A little bit spicy.
Mmm-hmm! I like this one.
Are you hungry? I'm starving!
And we're having a different of food for dinner.
Now we are in ‘Shan Ma Ma’, what kind of food we are going to have?
It's Shan Food.
Shan is the area (state), and they are the biggest ethnic group in Myanmar.
So, these are Shan dishes. They looks so colourful.
If you make me to pick to start first, I'm gonna pick this Fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts.
It's simple and it's delicious.
My favorite is going to be that one - Spicy Fried Shrimp. And some vegetables.
It's very distinct that they fry 3-layer pork with veggie, so it's very Shan style.
And this is also used with bamboo shoots. Bamboo shoot is totally the characteristic of Shan Food.
And they eat this food with rice. It’s cuisine and the rice.
It’s a very special food journey.
Stay tuned for the next adventure to other Myanmar city.
